Several Romanian tourists were evacuated from hotels in the Izmir – Kuşadasi region due to fires. No requests for consular assistance were received in Greece, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
Also, a representative of the General Consulate of Romania in Izmir travelled to Selçuk and Kuşadasi for better coordination with the Turkish authorities, to inform Romanian citizens in the region and provide consular assistance. After the fire was extinguished, the Romanian tourists returned to the accommodation units.
„The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE), through the diplomatic missions and consular offices of Romania in the Hellenic Republic and the Republic of Turkey, is paying attention to the situations generated by the occurrence of vegetation fires in the two states and monitors their evolution. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that at the level of the Romanian Embassy in Athens and the General Consulate of Romania in Thessaloniki, no requests for consular assistance were received from Romanian citizens located in the territory of this state, in the context of the vegetation fires of the last few days. According to the data obtained from the Greek authorities, the fires produced on June 29, 2024, in Parnitha (in the north of Athens) and Serifos Island (part of the Cyclades Islands) have been extinguished, and there were no Romanian citizens among the affected persons”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs transmits on Monday morning.
„Also, the Consulate General of Romania in Izmir was notified on the emergency phone by several Romanian citizens who were in this region for tourist purposes, in the context of the fires that affected, on June 29, 2024, the forest areas of Selçuk and Menderes, Izmir – Kuşadasi region. In the dialogue with the representative of the consular office, the Romanian citizens mentioned that they were evacuated by the local authorities from the accommodation units where they were, being provided with beds, food and drinking water, and the teams of firefighters, gendarmerie, civil protection and volunteers acted immediately to limit the effects of the disaster and extinguish the outbreaks”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reports.
Since, during the night of June 29 to 30, the fires were contained, the Romanian tourists were able to return to the accommodation units, currently continuing their stay, information confirmed by the Romanian citizens to the representative of the consular office.
